I DESIGN BECAUSE
I OBSERVE

ALAN LI · HUMAN–COMPUTER INTERACTION · SEATTLE

I'm a front-end engineer turned design researcher exploring how technology shapes human experience. At lululemon, I design and ship A/B experiments that reach millions of users. Beyond engineering, I direct Mandarin theatre productions and run a portrait photography practice — both help me understand how people focus, feel, and make decisions. My design work blends empathy, data, and storytelling to make digital experiences more human.

About

I'm Alan Li — a Human–Computer Interaction practitioner with a background in software engineering, experimentation, and creative storytelling.

After earning my B.S. in Computer Science and Complex Systems from the University of Michigan, I joined lululemon as a front-end engineer, where I've built and analyzed over 200 online experiments to optimize e-commerce experiences. This taught me how design, psychology, and data intersect in shaping user behavior.

Outside work, I direct and act in theatre productions and work as a portrait photographer in Seattle. Both experiences help me translate emotion, timing, and framing into interaction design. Through HCI, I aim to bridge engineering precision with empathy-driven creation.
